A new version of “Ground Hog Day – the O’Wich Sequel” is playing at a theater near us – we wake up to any empty bird feeder, torn through garbage and missing containers. We know it’s the raccoon but last night he didn’t have any hummingbird juice to wash down his midnight buffet. We moved the feeder under the eave and so far the raccoon hasn’t figured it out yet. It’s time for us to outsmart him!
I planted four hummingbird trumpet plants (hoping that one day they’ll be vines) at the corners of the trellis while Carlo ran to the store for soil and buckets so we could temporarily plant our Siberian Elms. We can’t place them in the ground until the trees are cut so the equipment doesn’t mash them down. And of course, this tree guy is holding our progress to a standstill. Hopefully the shrubs can withstand the bucket planting. We watered everything, cleared up the flower beds and re-stocked the feeders for the birds but we all know it’s ultimately for the midnight bandit!

We enjoyed leftover BBQ for lunch and finished just in time for my afternoon soaps. This is truly my idea of rest and relaxation and of course, vacation! We didn’t do much the rest of the afternoon other than visit the Farmer’s Market and get our burn permit updated at the Fire Department. We watched Men Who Stare at Goats and it sucked! Then, it was time for dinner and we went back to Trail Lodge Supper Club. By 8:45 we were back, exhausted and waiting for the threats of the storms to arrive.
