Time for a set back or just a tiny bit of trouble and a lot of work...
They got the deck boards removed and found the outer joist was rotten because of carpenter ants that were residing within. There were also ants found in the log wall, but that was coming down and we weren't overly concerned. To top it off, the previous owners used non-treated lumber when they built the porch and this was not good!
So Garry had to remove the joist and replace it before he could put down the plywood. So, after a laboreous day (IMO) the door now sits down almost level with the inside. Once the flooring is installed it will be level with the outside new plywood with no trips!
Garry also found out that our never met neighbor, Frank, gave his property to his nephew who was checking it out on Friday. He told Garry that he plans to build a house and a garage, 8' off the ground and live there permanently. This could be a good thing / bad thing for us. Hopefully he doesn't build too close to our property line and hopefully he is not a crazy neighbor. Of all the property near O'Wich, it just figures the property directly next to us is where someone plans to build!!! Then he told Garry he is going to try to get the county to fix the road...ha ha! Good luck with that!!! Welcome to the neighborhood!
