We took a trip to our local Menards to order the kitchen cabinets. We had gone with the intention of getting the unfinished pieces however, I was not looking forward to staining any inch of them. So the helpful girl in the kitchen design department did a floor plan based on my sketch, she etched it in and then showed us the rendering. She told us there were cabinets on sale that came in four different finishes. The finishes were white, oak, birch and hickory. We had her price out the hickory for us and we were surprised that the cost difference from the unfinished to the hickory was only $400 - closer to $700 but they were on sale! I would have had to bought stain and supplies and of course my time and I felt the extra money was well worth the option of getting them prefinished! We did compromise on the number of wall cabinets we would be getting but I believe I can say that we are both happy with the layout! We will be placing a shelf over the stove for the microwave which is also why we wanted to leave the space a bit more open. The only problem with the hickory finish is that I cannot get a 15 inch base cabinet with all drawers. So we will have only 2 drawers - but we have the island / cart!!!

River update as of 4/18/2014:
Wow! What a crazy river. The river levels just 4 days ago were 2.62 higher than the report this morning...15.22! This is good news that the river is going down. I am just hoping there has been no damage.
