February 22 through Frebruary 25, 2014

Saturday:
We were looking forward to our O'Wich visit; to see the snow and to do nothing - although we were worried we may be replacing some broken water pipes because of the non-stop freezing temps...just like here in Chiberia!
Our first stop was at the Belevidere Oasis. We went down the wrong fork in the road and ended up not going I88. We got gas and some beverages. We then drove to the Pine Cone restaurant for an early lunch. Once again, too much food and sadly there was no room for cheesecake. I think the next time I might start with dessert!
When we got to O'Wich we noticed there wasn't nearly as much snow as we expected, anticipated or left behind. The road off the highway was icy, rutted and crunchy. It was like we were on a ride at an amusement park with the way the truck drove itself once the tires were centered in the ruts!
Our driveway was down to gravel in some placed and iced over in others. Obviously the plow made it down for a visit. We then noticed that the screened in front porch was dismantled, the storm door was removed and the siding was off. Looks like construction has begun! And from the looks of the fire pit - they were busy!

There was hardly any snow on the back deck and the river looked frozen, although we never made it down to check it out.

Carlo checked under the house and everything looked to be okay with the plumbing. While I unloaded the truck and put away the few groceries I brought from home, Carlo got the water running and started a fire to get the chill out of the cabin. Looks like we got lucky and it was time to scratch "replace broken water pipes" from the list! Thank goodness.
I took inventory and edited the grocery list while Carlo brought in more fire wood. We found one dead mouse and a couple of flies - which will come alive if not destroyed - IMMEDIATLEY!
Early evening we ventured out into the abyss of cold and hit the crunchy road to go to Pierece's for groceries and Pizza Hut for dinner. It was cold when we left but it was worse when we got back. And of course almost everything had to go in the cabin in fear of it freezing. Once the groceries were put away we were able to begin our "do nothing" part of our weekend!

Sunday:
After breakfast, Carlo went to Tractor Supply and I used my brand new stove/oven to make a meatloaf. I cleaned a bit - picked up construction debris from the porch - made the bed and vacuumed. In the afternnoon, we watched the Wild Wilderness Marathon, napped, had lunch and napped some more. This visit was yet another where we napped through dinner and the "doing nothing" is working out great!

Monday:
This was my busy morning. We had breakfast rather early since I had an 8:00 am appointment for a cut and color and needed to hit the rutty road at 7:30 am. Carlo dropped me off then headed back to O'Wich for the morning. He had no plans and there was no construction scheduled. I was ready at 11:30 am and he picked me up and we had lunch before heading back to O'Wich. Later in the afternoon we visited with Betty for a couple of hours. We had a quick bite for dinner and then we took down the decor, removed the valances and moved some stuff out of the way for the upcoming construction. We accomplished everything we set out to do for the weekend, checked out our new windows and watched a TV.

Tuesday:
Time to go home. (SAD FACE). Carlo, once again, had to manually drain the system of water because for the thrid time in as many visits, the water is not draining properly. Something has got to be frozen - somewhere. I tended to the inside with packing, covering the furniture and TV and gathering the trash. We hit the ruts right on schedule.
Our next visits will be via photos that are sent during construction since we won't be able to get back unitl the middle of April - after the work is done...hopefully AFTER the work is DONE!
