We woke up to a gloomy, muggy morning. There are severe storms in the weather forecast; which means no staining or grass cutting. Once I got all settled in with my coffee and Kindle and the Jackal, the sun seemed to be peeking through and the only distant sound that I could hear was Carlo taking the tractor out of the shed. Looks like we are going to try to cut the grass before the skies open up. I get to do the trimming with the heaviest cord trimmer ever built. “See you later Jackal”, as I went in to dress for the mosquitoes. Then our neighbor stopped by and returned our gnome and one of our two deer.
If they could talk I wonder what they would say of their travels…would they tell us how they floated down the road in the four foot flood waters? Would they tell us of their being kidnapped – yes kidnapped – for almost a year? Would they tell us how they might have kept company with our old lawn mower?? Would they tell of the location of their whereabouts all this time??? Who knows…they can’t talk!!!

Who knew a day of mishaps stood before us? Carlo cut the grass with the tractor and I used the cord trimmer – which I kept losing the cord – around eight times and then it just quit working all together. The next couple of hours I used the manual hedge clippers – this was not smart. Sore back, sore arms and it was like cutting the grass with a pair of scissors. I guess hedge clippers are like scissors, just on a larger scale, but still small considering the amount of grass blades needing to be cut. Carlo was able to get another cord trimmer working – this one was submerged in the flood waters so it didn’t seem promising. I took it to the front, and other than losing the cord a few times it worked great. However, it too was also too heavy for me - I was like Goldigrass...oh, this trimmer is too heavy...this trimmer keeps breaking...this trimmer gets too hot! Then just as Goldigrass cried her last tear, Carlo came to the rescue and finished up the front! By 5:00 we were done even though all of the grass is not.

Steve stopped by and visited until 9:00 and then we ate a quick bite for a late dinner.
