Sunday was a good day – or so it started! After breakfast, we started the ceiling in the bedroom. Because the ceiling is vaulted, (that’s what we’ll call it) there are three sections – two are angled and one is flat. So – please envision the three sections. Thank you. We started out with section number one (an angled section) and it went up perfect. I was like a driven woman cutting wood – until, you guessed it, I almost took a derf. (luckily just another trip). This time, while running crazy back and forth, cutting and measuring, I tripped on the outdoor mat, stopped only when my head hit the 4 x 4 that holds the roof up and then I was slightly off balance. I could see this as an ugly event, but thank goodness my head stopped me from flipping off the porch. Now, back to more cutting – after I move the mat! The pieces went up so great in this first section that we should’ve seen it as an indicator of what would come. After we enjoyed lunch and oohed and aahed at our efforts, we moved on to angle number two – this is the part where we are reminded that the cabin is not plumb. The cabin is not square. The cabin is not level. The cabin has a difference of almost 4 inches from one wall to another and we may have cussed out the previous owners a time or two (or more). Let me add that section number two took twice as long as section one not to mention that Carlo was on a ladder for 10 hours AND working over his head. These items equate to sore arms, sore shoulders, sore legs, sore feet, short fuses and a need for me to perform a minor surgery on myself. Although I was attired with safety goggles, I forgot the ever important work gloves. I had several slivers, but one little bugger broke off…here’s the surgery part – I had to cut away some skin from my palm to get closer to the sliver. I was reminded that this was a dumb idea, but it worked out and the sliver was removed. As the evening came to an end, both angled sections were finished, the beds were made, the house was a horrible mess and we were too tired to go to dinner. So we finished the pizza and donuts and here is where we called it a day!
