Our trip was as many trips before, except we enjoyed looking at the beautiful snow covered trees along the way. They were quite stunning. We even enjoyed some holiday treats – the craziness was just waiting to set in once we got off the highway!
After a quick lunch we had an enjoyable ride down the snow packed, nicely plowed road. Our driveway was also nicely plowed with room for lots of cars to park. We needed to shovel a path to the stairs, the porch and to the propane tank…when I say we, I mean Carlo. The porch had a plethora of unknown paw prints and there was an obvious assortment of them as well. There was roughly a 20” accumulation of snow and everything looked fresh and white – a far cry from the ravage left by the Flood of September!
So, here comes the crazy…Carlo finds mouse droppings on a counter in the maintenance room which was just before I found some in the bedroom. Obviously Mouse Goldilocks was chanting this phrase; “While the rats are away, the mice will play.” Or “Hickory Dickory Dock, the mouse ran up the…” Well the mouse ran alright – and the chant continued; “Ooohhh, this bed is too hard. This bed is too soft. Oooohhh, this bed isn’t even just right, I think I’ll leave my shit behind and go check out the couch.” We keep the couch covered but not hermetically sealed. Mouse Goldilocks had crapped on the cushions AND chewed on a corner of one of them.
I got the vacuum out and got to work in cleaning the crap…literally! We haven’t had mice for four years and then the Flood of September brought them back…in the shed, under the house and now in the house. Hopefully what was cleaned up was left by just one!!!
We watched a little TV and then visited with Betty for a while before going to pick up lots of mouse bait…killer juice…mouse head explosion morsels! We had some other errands to run and then went to visit Paul in the nursing home. We brought him his birthday and Christmas gifts. Sadly, he didn’t seem to know us, but we are glad we stopped in for the visit.
We went to Bud’s for pizza and of course it was not disappointing.

Carlo set four neck popping traps for Goldilocks. He used peanut butter, but it could have been lute fish, scrapple or
While we were sleeping, noises kept waking us, including what sounded like three snapping mouse traps.
We were up around 8:00 and were both pretty uncomfortable knowing we had unwanted visitors romping about while we weren’t here and possibly while we were! I checked the trap in the bedroom – nothing! I checked the two traps in the maintenance room – nothing! I tucked myself back in bed and we wondered what the noises were that we heard during the night when Carlo asked if I checked the trap by the couch – “Nooo, I did not.” Up I got, again, and strolled into the living room and laying there about 6” from where the trap was placed was (possibly) Goldilocks! Not sure if this is the culprit, but we will certainly be setting another trap in that location when we leave!
Carlo gathered up all the covers and pillowcases and went to the Laundromat. I cleaned more while he was gone and watched a cluster of birds wipeout the bird feeder that Carlo filled before he left! When he gets back…it’s our end of the year photo op!
See you in 2011!!!
