August 14 – August 16, 2010

Saturday: I was able to leave work at 2:00 am and get in a nap before the trip to O’Wich. I left at 4:45 to pick up Karen. I pulled into her drive at 5:36 to find her sitting on a blue cooler in the driveway! A quick stop at DD and before I knew it 59 was behind us and we were on 88. The ride was fun and felt as though it flew by. Once in Wisconsin we stopped at the rest area and that helped us make it the rest of the way; pulling up to the farm stand at 9:00 ~ just as he was opening! We got gas and stopped for a few groceries and then it was time for Karen to travel “the road.” It was bad but not as bad as I thought it was going to be since the farm stand guy said it rained 4” in 2 hours on Friday. However, Karen did not care much for the road and now knows why I don't go out much when I'm there!!! Sadly, the mosquitoes were still bad as we made our way with all our stuff into the cabin as quickly as we could. We unpacked all the food, sat on the back deck and decided to grill brats and hot dogs. They were scrumptious. By 1:00 we thought we’d try to nap since it was already a long for each of us. I napped until 5:00, a bit longer than Karen and once we were both up we started grilling dinner. On the dinner menu were BBQ chicken thighs, corn and Karen's homemade potato salad. Delicious does not even come close! We spent the rest of the evening visiting and killing the mosquitoes that snuck in. By 9:30 we were stuffed and exhausted and decided to end the day…g’night!

Sunday: The easement is still flooded and it’s another semi-mosquito filled day - but still very relaxing. Coffee, lots of coffee, an awesome breakfast, enjoying the sun and a visit to Paul and Betty’s filled our day. When we got back, we grilled burgers for dinner and let me take this moment to totally brag…I am a great burger maker. Heck, I am just a great cook! Okay, I’m done – thank you for your undivided attention to the bragging moment! We were both exhausted after dinner, watched some turkeys travel through the easement, watched TV and ended the day; yeap, right around 8:30…whoo hoo! Party girls!!!

Monday: Today we were up early and enjoyed 53 degree temperatures as we sat outside drinking coffee – Karen in her crime-fighting flannel cape and me laughing at her while wearing my turquoise Polar-tek jacket. She won for the silliest ever costume! We grilled pork sausage and fried eggs – no...not the eggs on the grill. It was yet another tasty meal. Forget shark week – we were having an awesome food frenzy get-a-way and I impressed myself with everything I cooked – oops, sorry, already bragged about this! We sat outside for the entire morning while the temperature rose to around 70. There were light breezes and a minimal amount of humidity. There is no other way to describe these three days other than great company and relaxing! Karen threw gravy and meatballs in the crock pot for our early dinner – well not threw and yes, homemade – and YES, delicious! We needed to leave by 5:00 to hit the farm stand and head home, with my personal goal to be tucked safely inside by midnight!

Everything but the garbage and laundry - and of course Karen, is staying behind since I’ll be back with Carlo in 3 days…c’mon Friday!
